For 66 years, 5801 Racine Street has been the home for Memorial Tabernacle Church (previously known as Christ Holy Sanctified Church). It was not by accident or happenstance. This is a location where the Holy Spirit resides; lives transform through the preaching of God's Word; and generations continue to remain rooted in Christ and Oakland.

Join us for the 2026 MTC Community Day Saturday, August 1st, 2026 as we celebrate and give thanks for 66 years at our present historic location and 101 years in Oakland, CA!

Three (3) Events to Connect Community

All events included in 2026 Community Day are designed to reflect on the fortitude of the ministry and its leaders; encourage intergenerational participation; and deepen connection with community. You may choose to participate in one or all.

Saturday, August 1st | 9:30AM Check-in; 10:00AM Acknowledgements & Recognitions

In partnership with our councilmember CM Zac Unger and support of CM Carroll Fife, members and friends of MTC will commemorate the location of the old historic church -- 1711 - 7th Street.

Despite the devastation caused through eminent domain, Memorial Tabernacle Church (then known as Christ Holy Sanctified Church) remains rooted in Christ and Oakland.

Each step brings together the connection of the past and the present, moments of reflection and inspiration for the future. This 4-mile guided tour will highlight the beauty of two (2) communities in one city loved by the church that calls it home.

Reflecting Fortitude, Uplifting Community

Pause for a moment.

Use your imagination to reflect on what church leaders thought when they were told eminent domain was being used to take their church property at 1711 - 7th Street.

Bishop Ulysses Stephen King, Jr. recorded this moment in his book Running Away: The Memoir of a Bishop's Son. The government took the land to build the 7th Street Main Post Office, but sadly, the value of the property was significantly undervalued.

Monday, July 11, 1960, church leaders sent a letter communicating their interest in the property located at 5801 Racine Street.

Monday, August 1, 1960, our church leaders received the deed to our present church home of 5801 Racine Street!

But God!

God knew what the future would hold.

God knew where to direct the church leaders.

God knew the fortitude of the church leaders and mission of the church now residing at 5801 Racine Street.
